Those Darned Printer Cartridges
Of course, the printer cartridge is only empty when I need to write a contract in a hurry. I had no choice this morning but to run down to the office supply store to get another cartridge.
I went to the local Office Max, because I had a coupon for $10 off of my next purchase. As I checked out, the cashier told me, "Next time bring in your old cartridge. We might be able to re-fill it." "Really," I said. "I didn't know you could do that!""Sure," he said. "Usually we can, and if we can't we can at least re-cycle it to keep it out of the landfill. A black cartridge only costs $10 to re-fill." That's info worth knowing. Without my coupon, the set of two cartridges would have been over $50. If I had taken my cartridge with my coupon, I could have gotten a black cartridge for free!Next time...6 comments

You must not have an HP, they won't refill HP cartridges at our local stores. So, the new printer we just bought is a different brand, not that I checked to see if they would refill that brand.

Yes, I DO have HP, and the guy here said they would fill them. Must be a Florida thing...:-)

I was told they could NOT be filled because of their design, but it was not an Office Max... We are going to pick up our new printer this morning at a Staples, I will ask them and also call Office Depot, I can't remember which one told me no! When you DO get one filled let me know, 'cause I'm just saying... grin.... PS I already have my only the good friday written and scheduled to post!

I have no idea if our printer has this "feature," but I just now read that some printer manufacturers have gotten very clever: They put a code on the cartridges that the printer reads, and the printer keeps track of how much ink is used from that particular cartridge -- once a certain amount is used it says "out of ink" **even if there is still ink in the cartridge!!** This is a diabolical ploy on their part to be sure that customers will continue to have to buy $50 replacement cartridges for a $65 printer. ARRGGGHH.

Diabolical, indeed!
