'Tis The Season

Thanks to comments made on my home blog, and matching donations, 720 cans of food have been delivered to local food banks.  That feels good!

Today, I delivered 33 "extra" afghans from the Share A Square program to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.  These (the work of more than 400 volunteers from around the world) will be delivered in time for the holidays to children with cancer.

Now, it feels like the Christmas season.

Empty My Piggy Bank To Fill The Food Bank

I loved an idea from Chris + Lynn Photography and I've decided to jump on the bandwagon.  From now until December 12th, post a comment on this blog or any post of my main blog, This Eclectic Life, and I will donate a canned good per comment to my local food bank.  Visit my post about Cans for Comments to find other participants.

Hey, it's an easy way that you can give without hurting your pocketbook!  Break the bank, won't you?

Unfortunately, the shoe doesn't "fit."

Oh, I wish I could recommend Toms Shoes.  The concept behind them is so amazing:  Buy a pair, give a pair -- to a child in need.  Since May of 2006, this caring organization has given more than 60,000 pairs of shoes to children in Argentina and South Africa.  What a worthy cause!

I looked at the shoes on-line and was tempted to order, even though they are a bit pricey.  But, I discovered that there was a local store that sold them, so I went to have a look.

I was terribly disappointed.

This picture is taken through the store window, but I think you can see what I mean.  First, they are not attractive to me (I'm being polite...I think they are "butt ugly."), second they look "homemade."  They might be comfortable, but I would not wear those out of the house!

Such a pity.  However, I think my money would be better spent by just donating to the cause.  Unfortunately, I didn't see immediately on the site how to do that.
